My boy was able to take his first public land deer yesterday evening. Shot this young spike sitting on the ground in hard woods at 75 yards. He has been brought up I hate to say it spoiled, because he has shooting houses and nice stands to hunt with (heaters, phones, snacks, etc..) Every now and then dad takes him to show him how I was brought up hunting off the ground in the big woods. I actually believe I was more proud of this deer than any of the others he has killed. Public land from the ground is hard to do, but it shows me that he has come a long way when it comes to hunting. He will never forget that moment with his dad on public land. He was not the biggest deer but the hunt was special and something I will never forget.

I’m a ground hunter myself. I have 4 tripods, but only 2 have seen me this year. It’s a challenge to get them from the ground with no blind. I’m glad your son is exposed to that. Congratulations to y’all!!

Something bout a public land kill that just gets me fired up more than private land kills. No corn, food plots, cameras, he killed that deer where that deer wanted to be instead of where “we” try and get them to be. Congrats young fella!
