Made a hunt w one of my boys friend. Hit the swamp and set up. Few birds flew over and some landed to far. We got back in the boat to cross the bayou and sneak hunted. We shot our limit and Pearl worked like a champ.

Typically try to kill mostly drakes when you have options. My dog hasn’t picked up many birds so not having many to shoot, the mindset is shoot limit if can. We are going for final test in seasoned March second. Hopefully we can get that behind us. She’s not even two years old so we are ahead of the curve and is fine hunting dog already. The hunt test is what makes me train to have a dog fine tuned.

I hear ya on picking them out. Been a tuff year for many. We had a lucky run and did fairly well but still way down from years past. Pics say y’all had some great shoots yourself!

Tried the hunt test games in college. Had some good times and saw some great dogs. They don’t just hand out ribbons! Made it through started and had to change focuses.

Was going to try and get back in it with my current dog. High spirited British lab. The drive is awesome but he’s a lot to handle and they give initials on control and manners. When he took out a 6’4” guy on a retrieve and never checked up I made the call he’d be a great meat dog! He’s slightly crazy, ain’t going to lie. But he’s done well this season so it is what it is!

Us either that’s why we have made a few wood duck hunts in the woods. Made two opening morning hunts in the marsh and I walked away with one teal. We did make a mallard hunt on my place that was good for one hunt. After that the pond has been empty. This is the worst year I have ever seen it in the 44 years I have duck hunted. When the season was just 30 days and 3 bird limit, it was 40 times better than this year.
